​​Narelle Martin: Director
​Ms Martin is onto her fifth career path and continues to learn from all of them .  This has included commonwealth public service (a long time ago); training and development; banking; tertiary education administration (including working for a student union); and working with a focus on environmental matters for the longest time within state government (Victoria); local government (Victoria and Ontario, Canada) and as a self employed consultant (Australia and Canada.)

Ms Martin has extensive experience in developing and delivering programs for continuous improvement in environmental performance. In addition to over 25 years of professional experience, both in Australia and in Canada, she has experience as a community change agent in heritage matters, both as an elected Municipal Councillor in Gawler (South Australia) and co-founder and chair of a Community Heritage group. More recently she has also been deeply involved in expanding resilience in a local community as foundation co chair of a  Giant Pumpkin Competition and Harvest Festival.

Ms Martin has recently completed a two year contract on a pilot project of the Government of Victoria working with Local Government across Victoria.  Ms Martin was one of three Local Government Climate Change Mentors.  Information on the Mentor initiative is available at http://www.climatechange.vic.gov.au/action/leadership-and-governance

Ms Martin is particularly interested in sustainability and climate change, and working with rural communities.

Ms Martin lived and worked in Canada for 9 years. In Canada she became the first Environmental Co-ordinator for the City of Burlington and subsequently moved into consulting. Clients included the Walkerton Inquiry, the City of Burlington, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Town of Oakville. Prior to leaving Canada, Ms Martin was engaged by the Wine Council of Ontario to assist them in developing an Environmental Charter for the Wine Industry. This large project was officially launched in April 2007.

Before her move to Canada, Ms Martin was the Regional Manager for the Environment Protection Authority for North East Victoria. Ms Martin also worked as a consultant in catchment management, as well as working with community groups, local government and farming groups to identify their environmental issues and develop practical strategies for overcoming them.

Ms Martin is also an experienced public speaker and facilitator and has published papers on a range of topics including climate change and local government, catchment management, water industry reform, landcare and environmental management programs.

Examples of consultancy work completed
North East Greenhouse Alliance (funded by Australian Government through Water for the Future)
Wrote "Regional Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for North East Victoria: Water and Beyond"
Report synthesises outcomes of research by other independent consultants, with recommendations for six municipalities and other partners of the North East Greenhouse Alliance.

City of Wodonga
Facilitated workshops for staff of Environmental Health Team and Civic Services Team of City of Wodonga and developed resultant plans in consultation with staff.

North East Greenhouse Alliance (funded by Australian Government through Water for the Future)
Invited to assist the NEGHA work with Steering Group and other consultants to finalise the project: North East Victoria Adapting to a Low Water Future. This was a project management role from September 2011 to February 2012.

North East Greenhouse Alliance (funded by Australian Government through Water for the Future)
Identify plans and strategies of five participating municipalities that are impacted by reduced water availability and increased frequency and severity of rainfall events and identify gaps in each plan where climate change and water assumption plans may be inadequate. Result is a report "North East Victoria – Adapting to a low water future: Review of Municipal documents".

Ovens Landcare Network
Assisted in clarifying strategic directions.

Department of Sustainability and Environment for the Gippsland Climate Change Network
Identified and mapped community, government and business sector activity in Gippsland Region in relation to climate change and sustainability.

Department of Sustainability and Environment (North East)
Identified and mapped community organisations in North East Victoria (Hume Region) involved in sustainability and climate change.

Wine Council of Ontario
Assisted the wine industry in Ontario, Canada to develop an environmental charter for the wine industry, for vineyards, wineries and hospitality related to wineries.

Town of Oakville
Assisted the Town of Oakville to establish the scope and development of an Environmental Strategic Plan for the community.
Walkerton Inquiry
Provided expert input into workshops and paper developed for the Walkerton Inquiry on water industry reform process in Victoria, Australia.

City of Burlington
Developed in consultation with staff a Healthy Green Spaces Strategy for Public Lands.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities
Work on watersheds for Canadian Council for Ministers of the Environment.
